Saadani National Park

Where the Wild Meets the Waves - Africa's Only Beach Safari

Overview of Saadani National Park

Saadani National Park is the only place in East Africa where the beach meets the bush, creating a completely unique safari experience along Tanzania's Indian Ocean coast. This extraordinary park combines golden sandy beaches lined with palm trees and the blue waters of the Indian Ocean with traditional African wildlife viewing. The park was protected as a game reserve since the 1960s and later expanded in 2002 to cover twice its former area. While sunbathing on pristine beaches, you might spot elephants strolling past to drink from the ocean or hippos wallowing where rivers meet the sea.
The park offers a completely unique safari environment, combining the rare recipe of river, bush and beach. The beaches in and around Saadani form one of the last major breeding sites in Tanzania for green turtles, while the mangrove-lined Wami River provides boat safari opportunities among hippos, crocodiles, and beautiful mangrove kingfishers. This compact coastal park allows you to combine classic game drives with beach relaxation, boat trips through mangroves, and even snorkeling adventures all in one destination.

Psst...

Boat safaris on the Wami River last 2-3 hours showing hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and lions drinking along the banks. Visit Mafui sandbank Island which emerges during the day and disappears at dusk, perfect for snorkeling among vibrant marine life.
